Introduce fractions
Hold up a paper circle. Ask: If we share this pizza equally between 2 people, how do we cut it? Fold and cut to show halves. Introduce the terms numerator and denominator.

Fold and label
Students fold their pizza circle into 4 equal slices. They cut along the folds and label each piece 1/4. Discuss: How many pieces make a whole pizza?

Decorate the toppings
Students color or draw toppings on some slices. They write a fraction sentence: '2 out of 4 slices have pepperoni = 2/4.' Encourage creativity with toppings.

Explore equivalence
Show that 2/4 = 1/2 by placing two quarter-slices on top of one half-slice. Students find other equivalent pairs using their pieces and record them on the worksheet.

Compare and share
Students compare their pizzas with a partner. Who has more slices with toppings? Write a comparison using > or <. Share findings with the class.
